inFlow On-Premise will not install on Windows 11? Protect your data before you migrate

MasterQ Team16 min read

If you use inFlow On-Premise, the locally installed inFlow v3, and it will not install, open, or connect to its database on a new Windows 11 computer, do not begin with repeated reinstalls. Protect the old computer and its data first.

inFlow states that On-Premise sales, activations, and support ended on July 31, 2024. Its current cloud Windows client still supports Windows 11. The issue is not that Windows 11 cannot run every version of inFlow. The risk is that an unsupported local edition can fail during a computer replacement, reinstall, Windows update, database-service problem, or security-software conflict, with no official support path left. inFlow On-Premise sunset notice, current inFlow Windows requirements

Confirm whether you use the old local edition

On the old computer, open Menu > Options > About inFlow.

  • A version beginning with 3.xx is inFlow On-Premise.
  • A four-part version such as 2023.213.42 is the current cloud edition.
  • If this menu is unavailable, you may be using the older v2 and should treat it as a separate recovery case.

This distinction matters. A search for “inFlow Windows 11 install failed” can describe a current cloud client or an unsupported local system. The recovery and migration options are different.

Do not uninstall, clean SQL Server folders, or overwrite the source

Do not uninstall inFlow from the old computer, delete SQL Server folders, or restore an unknown backup over the source data. Those actions can make recoverable data harder to retrieve.

Before changing anything, keep the old computer and disk, copy database files and automated backups to two separate locations, and record the inFlow version, last known good date, user count, and server-client setup. Make a written list of the data that still matters to the business: items, customers, vendors, on-hand inventory, open sales and purchase orders, receivables, payables, and price history.

inFlow's historical reinstall guidance also tells users to locate database files and the Backup folder under C:\ProgramData\inFlow Inventory before cleanup or reinstalling. inFlow data-protection guidance before reinstalling

Why the problem appears during a Windows 11 computer replacement

The new computer is often the trigger, not the only cause. Many teams keep the local edition alive on an aging server or laptop until a hardware replacement, Windows update, database-service failure, antivirus block, or staff change exposes how much depends on one machine.

On-Premise relies on the local Windows environment and SQL Server components. An installation that still works on an old machine is not proof that it can be safely copied to a new one. After support ends, the business carries the troubleshooting and downtime risk.

Choose one of three paths

Keep the old local edition running temporarily

If the old computer still works, use that time to create verified backups and plan the next step. This can buy time, but it is not a long-term support plan.

Move to inFlow cloud

If a subscription, hosted data, and a cloud-first workflow fit your business, evaluate the official cloud edition. This path suits teams that want to remain in the inFlow product family and do not require long-term control of a local database.

Move to a new on-premise inventory system

If you need LAN operations, a one-time purchase, and data on your own computer or server, migrate while the old system or its backups are still readable. The goal is not to copy every old record without review. Confirm which data will affect future quotations, inventory, collections, and customer service.

MasterQ is built for this third path. We first check whether the old system and backups can be read, then scope items, customers, vendors, inventory, opening receivables and payables, and price history. The new system is deployed and tested on a Windows 11 computer or LAN server before the team confirms cutover. Explore the inFlow alternative, learn about on-premise inventory software

Data that is easy to overlook during migration

Items, customers, and vendors are usually straightforward. These four areas often determine whether the new system works well on day one:

  • Customer-specific pricing and price history.
  • Open orders and outstanding balances.
  • Multiple warehouses, units, barcodes, and custom fields.
  • Reports and printed documents used with customers, vendors, and the warehouse.

Describe what you still need to look up and how the team writes orders, receives goods, and ships orders each day. That gives a better migration scope than asking only whether an Excel file can be imported.

Frequently asked questions

Does Windows 11 make inFlow On-Premise incompatible?

Not as a general claim. Current inFlow cloud Windows clients support Windows 11. For On-Premise users, the practical issue is that the old edition is unsupported when a new computer, reinstall, or changed system environment creates a problem.

Can I recover data from an old or failed inFlow computer?

It depends on whether the old disk, database files, or automated backups are readable. Keep the original source intact, assess what can be read, and then confirm the data and history to migrate.

Should I reinstall inFlow on the new computer before planning migration?

Get a technical assessment, but do not make reinstalling the only plan. When an old installation fails, repeated cleanup and reinstalls can raise the data risk. Preserve recoverable source data and prepare the replacement in parallel.

Does moving from inFlow to MasterQ require closing the business for days?

No blind shutdown is required. The new system can be deployed and tested first, then the data and daily workflow can be checked before both sides confirm a cutover time. The actual timeline depends on data volume, history scope, and customization.

If your local inFlow system still runs on the old computer, this is the best time to assess migration. Do not wait for the computer to fail completely. Contact us for a data and migration assessment.
